OCC Clothing (Round 2) Has Arrived!

Our second round of clothing orders has now arrived and will be ready for pickup on Tuesday September 20th at the Appleby / 407 Parking Lot after the rides have finished.  With the earlier start times for rides, we won’t have time before ride departures to distribute.  Please look for Jen in the parking lot to pick yours up.

As a reminder to those who still have not picked up their initial clothing order, or you have not swapped your jersey that was impacted by the sizing issue with the original order, Jen has those as well – please be sure to come by to pick your clothing up or swap your jersey.

Additional distribution dates will be communicated as we know our schedules.

Volunteers Needed – Canadian Track Championships and Milton International Challenge

Cycling Canada is looking for volunteers to assist with the upcoming Canadian Track Championships (September 24 to September 26) and, the Milton International Challenge (September 29 to October 1).

All volunteers will receive track-level accreditation, a Cycling Canada t-shirt and shift-appropriate meals.
Various times and shifts are available. Volunteers must be available for a minimum of two shifts.

Volunteers must be over the age of 18. If you are interested in volunteering for either or both of these events, please contact Volunteer Coordinator, Mel Crosby at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

11th Annual Greg’s Ride - Ontario’s Ride for Safer Cycling:  September 25th

Next Sunday (September 25th) is the 11th Annual Greg's Ride and a fundraiser for Share the Road's advocacy work.  100% of the proceeds from this ride go towards our efforts to build a province where:

  • Everyone feels safe making the choice to ride a bike
  • Every student participates in a cycling safety course
  • Communities are connected by a network of cycle tracks, bike lanes and paved shoulders

The event runs locally in and around the Milton area and offers riders three distances to choose from: 15km, 60km and 98km.  Registration includes: hot lunch, Steam Whistle beer, swag bag, ride support, snack stations and post-ride yoga.  Register now at www.sharetheroad.ca/gregsride.  An OCC Discount Code has been provided to save 20% off registration (20OakvilleCC16)

OCC Velodrome Nights Are Back!

We will once again be running our OCC Track Nights offering our members with private track time at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre (MNCC) in Milton.   Our first session will start on October 23rd and run through monthly through March 2017.

Per MNCC rules, all participants must have successfully completed their “A” and “B” Certifications to participate.  If you are not certified at the MNCC, you can register for courses at the following page (you will need to set up an Account / PIN with the Town of Milton to register for online courses if you do not have one already):

http://www.mattamynationalcyclingcentre.ca/en/participate/Learn-to-ride-the-Track.asp

Please fill out the following form with the date(s) you are interested in participating in any of these sessions:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe_Hokhj98LwFccMHEY7Wqu6uZeU_siGxK22vVUvUrcVV3azA/viewform?c=0&w=1

We can accommodate up to 30 riders per session.  Targeted communications will be sent closer to each date and priority will be given to OCC members.  We expect the cost to be around $15 / per person for each session; this does not include rental bike charges for those who need a bike which can be rented at the velodrome for an additional fee.  Similar to last year, if we find we have spots available leading up a given night members may be allowed to bring guests who are certified for the MNCC.

Have a great week!

Jeremy
